“Once Upon a Mattress” is a musical comedy that opened off-Broadway in May 1959 and then moved to Broadway. The play was written as a humorous adaptation of the 1835 Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale “The Princess and the Pea”. The music is by Mary Rodgers, lyrics by Marshall Barer, and book by Jay Thompson, Dean Fuller, and Marshall Barer. The story is set in a medieval kingdom and follows the search for a princess to marry Prince Dauntless, a young man whose domineering mother, Queen Aggravain, has made it nearly impossible for anyone to pass her rigorous tests.
Our production will have a Cast of 30 receiving at least 40 hours of preparation before their opening night. There are 4 female-facing lead roles and 6 male-facing lead roles.
